In Pre-production Discussion
Music creates community, and life inspires music. Inspired by the music and life of Frederic Chopin at a very early age, Dale Bell, a filmmaker, and his wife, Liz, met the Yoder family during an intermission at a Chopin concert at the Long Beach Symphony concert about 10 years ago. There, playing short pieces in the lobby, were parents Roza and Douglas Yoder, with their three young boys, Kasper, Dominik, and Lukasz, each playing a different Chopin work. Roza Kostrzewska met Douglas Yoder at a Chopin Piano competition in Warsaw, Poland years earlier. Now, home-schooling their children, and teaching other young people at their home, the Yoders are the life-blood of a growing community of players who love music. Lukasz is now a student at UCLA, in piano performance, where he is also a teacher. Dominik and Kasper give concerts, when they are not all surfing, or skateboarding, or Polish dancing together. Dale will make a film about this remarkable family’s journeys.
